Project #39 RYOKO

 



Ryoko is a fitted, circular yoke sweater. The yoke is provisionally cast-on & knit bottom-up to better adjust for yoke height. The body with waist-shaping is knitted top-down to better adjust its length.

The ease for the finished garments is ~0 (2, 0)” for sizes S (M, L). Sample garment shown in size Small is knitted with 2 strands of sample yarns held together, with the resulting weight equal to Aran/Worsted. When substituting yarn, it might be preferable to start with a single strand of Aran/Worsted weight yarn.

Sizes: Small (Medium, Large) 
Bust: 32”/ 81 cm (34”/ 86 cm, 36”/ 91 cm)
Waist: 26”/ 66 cm (28”/ 71 cm, 30”/ 76 cm)
High Hip: 31”/ 79 cm (33”/ 84 cm, 35”/ 89 cm)

The suggested skeins of yarn for the whole project are 4 (5, 5) of MC & 1 (2, 2) of the CC yarns listed below. When in doubt, always get an extra skein.

Materials, Tools, & Notions:

-Yarns: Hobbii Winter Glow Solid in Thistle #39 (MC) & Cherry #35 (CC) – 51% Wool/49% Acrylic – 3.5oz/100g & 350 m/382 yds

-Needles: 1) Circular needles (CircN) in US 7 /4.5 mm of lengths: 
                     • 16”/40 cm (neckband) 
                     • 32”/80 cm (yoke & body ITR, & sleeves in magic loop method) 
                     • 40”/100 cm (yoke) 
                 2) CircN in US 5 / 3.75 mm of length 32” / 80 cm (cuff in magic loop method) 
                 3) Crochet hook in US G-6 /4 mm. (for provisional CO)

-All else: Stitch markers, removable stitch markers (optional), waste yarn/stitch holders, tape measure, yarn needle & scissor.

Gauge: (Knit ITR, with 2 strands of sample yarns held together & blocked):

Please use Chart 1a for colorwork gauge swatching & do not work the decreases. Sample swatch was worked with 3 pattern repetitions & up to round 21. 

-Stockinette: 10 sts x 13 rounds = (2 x 2)” or (5.1 x 5.1) cm. 
-Colorwork: 11 sts x 11.5 rounds = (2 x 2)” or (5.1 x 5.1) cm.

Helpful Tutorial: MB (Make Bobble) For Knitting, Worked With a Crochet Hook Melanie is knitted bottom-up & in-the-round to underarms.  Then the front & back body are knitted flat separately.  The shoulder straps are later combined to form contiguous shoulder seams.  Finally, garment is finished with garter stitch neckband knit in the round.  Sample garment in size Small is very fitted with ~2” or ~5.1 cm of negative ease from body measurements, cropped, & falls to low waist.  Note that the designer is pear body-shaped, & petite (5’4” or 163 cm). The garment ease for each of the sizes are ~2” (0’, 2”, 0”, 2”) or ~5.1 (0, 5.1, 0, 5.1) cm for S (M, L, XL, 2XL).  For sizes M & XL, garment will fit looser but still be fitted because of waist-shaping.  Difficulty Level : Intermediate/Advanced.
